We are so excited to be launching this brand new challenge. What was it that particularly excited you about travelling to Malawi?

I am so thrilled to be involved in this challenge which combines eco-tourism, conservation and adventure. I love being close to water so a trip which focuses on diving and kayaking is just up my street. I can’t wait to immerse myself in the clear waters of Lake Malawi, kayak to remote islands and explore the local culture and traditions.

It is great that your children are coming to join you in Malawi. What do you hope they will gain from the experience?

My children have never visited Africa, let alone somewhere as exciting and diverse as Malawi. We love family adventures in unusual places and this one looks as though it will tick all the boxes for all of us and so much more. To be immersed in a culture like this, even for just a week, will be life-changing for all of us.

Can you tell us about what to expect from The Orbis Conservation Challenge? What are some of the highlights?

I think the safari will be a real highlight for all of us. Experiencing the wonder of big African game is something you never forget. However, discovering more about the conservation efforts around the lake and the challenges the locals face there will be really eye-opening.

Each Orbis Challenge has a Purpose. What is the purpose you will be learning and raising awareness for?

We will be raising awareness for fish conservation by supporting the incredible charity Ripple Africa. They work along the whole lakeshore in Malawi connecting with local communities and working with the fishermen to try and combat over fishing and conserve the precious fish stocks in the lake. We will be spending time with one of their community conservation groups and also diving with the Cyclid fish which will be an incredible experience. We hope to raise some funds to support their work but most importantly to come home having learnt about innovative ways to protect these precious waterscapes.

Lastly who are you hoping will join you on your team? What type of travellers would this adventure suit?

I ‘m hoping that we’ll have a group of like-minded individuals who are up for an adventure, motivated about conservation issues and keen to raise money to make a difference to communities in Malawi. I look forward to some interesting conversations around the campfire in the evenings!
