Step outside your bubble

We are so excited to be launching The Orbis Family Challenge for October Half Term 2024. After a few years of no travel this is a wonderful opportunity to head out to Africa with your family and take on this amazing challenge. Combining time spent within rural communities, schools, fair trade tea estates plus the challenge of climbing Mulanje Mountain, incredible wildlife safari and ending on the shores of Lake Malawi. Your Expedition to Malawi

Overnight International Flight to Blantyre

  • Arrive and Acclimatise. Stay Fair Trade Tea Estates.

  • Recycled paper making, ice tea making at the estate factory

  • Ascend Mulanje Mountain. Sleep in mountain hut on the plateau

  • Descend and pizza time at base camp

  • Wildlife Safari at Liwonde National Park

  • Domwe Island - Lake Malawi

  • School Experience- Cape Maclear

Estimate Dates: October Half Term 2024

Estimate Cost: £1,300 (Adult). £1,150 (children under 12). This cost is based on a group of 12 travelling.

Support: You will be accompanied by an Orbis Trained Local Malawian Guide throughout your time in Malawi and have 24hr support for your group.

Education: Global Citizenship

Fair Trade Tea Estate: Learn about the tea and coffee making process and the communities that rely on the estates for work and support.

Conservation: Climate action and deforestation. Mulanje Mountain Hike.

School Time: Spend time at a village primary/secondary school.

Adventure

Mulanje Mountain Hike: 5-7 hrs and 1000 metres of tracks and trails. Crossing streams, valleys and through beautiful woodland. Mid level fitness needed- plenty of snack stops! Accommodation is in very basic mountain huts and cooking around the fire. (porters and guides included).

Wildlife Safari: Spend 24 hrs on safari. River Boat, 4 x 4 Game Drives. Sleep under canvas at Mvuu Camp, Liwonde National Park.

Domwe Island: Robinson Crusoe Experience. Camping on the beach. Cooking round the fire.

Purpose

Getting Involved: As a group you can decide if you wish to raise money/awareness for a particular topic. We are here to guide you through the options and ensure every penny you raise is given sustainably.

Ideas: Pick a theme that is of particular interest. Healthcare- mosquito nets. Education- desks and chars for a local school. Conservation- reforestation project.

The Orbis Family Challenge will be a mix of families travelling together in a group. If you would like a bespoke trip just for your family then let us know.

Costs and Inclusions

Your tourism dollars go miles in Africa and provide employment for our Malawian staff, suppliers and support for our community links. Our prices are competitive whilst also reflecting the incredible Orbis service you get pre/post travel and the back up support we offer during your time in Malawi. So dig deep…it will be worth it- stay as long as you can!

The cost of The Orbis Family Challenge is £1,300 (excluding flights). Children under 12 travel for £1,050. Flights are around £600-£900- we can help you source these if needed. This price covers everything in country - all accommodation, activities, guides, porters and food. Your tips, visas and drinks (alcohol) are additional.

You need a 20% deposit to secure your place. From there we will try and be as flexible as we can with a payment plan that suits you.
