Embed Global Citizenship into your school curriculum

Young people’s opportunities for international school trips are currently limited and therefore their chance for their horizons to be broadened. We are offering online workshops delivered by Kate Webb, Owner of Orbis Expeditions, that aim to engage your students with global issues and bring culture, citizenship and the UN Global Goals into your classroom.

Orbis Online Student Workshops

Our workshops are designed to suit Year 9 - Year 13. If you want to expand your students horizons, engage them with global challenges, introduce the UN Global Goals or provide students with a different careers talk then do get in touch and we can chat about what we can offer. See sample workshops below.

Each workshop is £150 (45-60 mins). For a series of workshops we can adjust the price to offer a package deal.

Just a quick email to say a huge thank you for popping in to speak to us today. It was so well pitched towards Pre-Prep age children and I know they all learnt so much. We’ll be having lots of interesting conversations later on today, I’m sure!

Workshop 1. Careers- An entrepreneurs journey

Kate chats about her route from school to running two social impact companies in Africa. From A-Level choices to Gap Year working holidays, from Masters Degree to the journey of becoming an entrepreneur. A chance for students to see the highs and lows of running your own business and how the freedom of choice to do what you love is often balanced with the fear and risk you take by choosing a different path.

This workshop is ideal for Year 13/Final year students but can be adapted to a younger audience too.

Workshop 2. The story behind Africa…is charity the best answer?

Africa is often portrayed as a continent of poverty and charity. Kate challenges this perception, bringing to life the aspirations of young people in Africa, the innovations and wonders of the continent. We ask the question is charity the answer to helping people out of poverty? Is there a difference between good giving and bad giving and what does each offer the person receiving the charity? Key themes of this workshop include: poverty, empowerment, global citizenship, charity.

This workshop can include small group work and is ideal for sparking debate and in a series with workshops on global citizenship.

Workshop 3. Global Citizenship + UN Global Goals

We want to bring Global Citizenship into your classrooms and engage your students with the UN Global Goals. By 2030 we all have a commitment to fulfil the Global Goals and young people play a crucial role in ensuring these are reached. We use examples from our work in Malawi, and Malawian students as case studies, to talk about the idea that we all belong to ‘one world’ and the responsibility we all have to think about how we can contribute to it being a fairer more equal place.

This workshop is ideal for Year 9 upwards. For older audiences we delve deeper into the goals, choosing specific global ideas and discussing how these apply to young people’s future decisions.

We were very grateful to be able to work with Kate as a guest speaker at school. We wanted to expose our pupils to different career paths in sport and Kate delivered a fantastic presentation on her journey with ORBIS. She was an incredibly inspiring to listen to and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed listening to her speak about the highs and lows of her career journey post education. Kate was well organised and easy to work with. She produced some excellent resources to share with the pupils in a very interactive way. I would recommend Kate to any school or organisation looking to educate young people in tourism & sport industry, finding work with a purpose, charity work, entrepreneurship and starting new companies.

Kate Webb led us through a fascinating exploration of living and working in Africa that captivated our students. In addition to exploring issues relating to geography, the environment, and international relations, she shared valuable insights gained from her experience of establishing a flourishing and ethical enterprise in Malawi. In a wide-ranging discussion we thought more seriously than ever, but also more hopefully, about the true meaning of global citizenship, sustainable development, and our shared global future.
